The name means eldest, and Indra is the deity: the king who holds the position and knows it can be lost. Jyeshtha carries seniority and the burden that comes with it, including the isolation of being the one others defer to and the vigilance of someone who has something to defend.
Mercury rules it, so the authority here is exercised through skill and speech rather than force. The characteristic difficulty is pride operating below the level of awareness. People with weight in Jyeshtha are rarely arrogant in an obvious way, but they will find it disproportionately hard to be corrected in public, and the discipline that repays most is deliberately accepting correction from someone junior.
