The name means the earlier invincible one, and the tradition attaches it to water: not still water but water that wears things down and eventually gets through. Purva Ashadha describes conviction, and specifically the kind that does not argue loudly because it does not expect to lose.
Venus rules it, so the confidence is persuasive rather than aggressive, and it tends to gather people rather than confront them. The difficulty is that certainty this comfortable is rarely examined.
