This is the most severe of the twenty-seven and the tradition does not disguise it. Aja Ekapada is the one-footed goat, a figure of ascetic fire, and the symbols point towards renunciation and the end of things. Purva Bhadrapada is where comfort is treated as an obstacle rather than a reward.
Jupiter rules it, which is what keeps the severity attached to a purpose instead of becoming mere harshness. Read carefully, the pattern is intensity applied to belief: strong convictions, willingness to sacrifice for them, and impatience with people who hold theirs lightly. The corrective is not moderation, which will be rejected here. It is asking who benefits from the sacrifice, and whether the answer is anyone at all.
