Shravana

Shravana means hearing, and the symbol is the ear. In a tradition that transmitted itself orally for centuries, this is not a small assignment: the division governs learning by listening, and with it the whole apparatus of receiving knowledge accurately from someone else.

The Moon rules it, so the listening is receptive and retentive rather than merely polite. People with weight here are often the ones others tell things to. The difficulty is that a life spent taking in what others say can leave a person unclear about what they themselves think, and the discipline that helps is writing down one's own position before hearing anyone else's.
